Why Getting Outdoors Matters More Than Ever During World Alzheimer's Month

September is World Alzheimer's Month - a time to talk more openly about dementia, and about what actually helps the people living with it and the people around them.
Why outdoor activity helps
At The Growing Place, we get it: time outdoors, moving, and doing something alongside other people makes a real difference to wellbeing. That's true generally, and it's especially true for men, who are often less likely to reach out for support in the first place.

It's not just about the person living with dementia
Memory loss doesn't just affect the person experiencing it - it changes life for partners, sons, daughters and friends too, often quietly and without much support of their own. Men supporting someone through this can end up isolated, carrying a lot without anywhere to put it down.
Getting outdoors, staying active, and being around other people who understand isn't a cure for anything - but it helps people cope, and it helps people stay connected instead of withdrawing.
What The Growing Place offers
We're not a clinical service, and we don't pretend to be. What we offer is simple: nature-based activity, honest conversation, and a group of people who show up for each other. For some of our members, that's exactly the kind of support that's been missing.
Come and join us
If you, or someone you know, is finding things hard right now - whether that's their own wellbeing or supporting someone else through memory loss - you don't have to go through it alone.
